The following is a simple list of Day Care Furniture that may be included in your Day Care center:

Chairs and Tables

This table displays the suggested size for tables and chairs in your Day Care center:

You should always allow a minimum of 7" and maximum of 10" between the chair seat and bottom of the table

Tables for your Day Care come in a variety of shapes including the common rectangle and round table. Kidney and horseshoe shaped tables are very useful because they allow the teacher to see each child face to face and makes it easier to assist each child if needed.


Storage

You must provide storage in your Day Care center for each child's personal belongings which may include extra change of clothes, sheets, pillow, blanket, etc. Cubbies are an excellent choice for your Day Care as they are easily accessible for children.

  • Make sure the cubbies are low enough so that any child in your class will be able to reach the highest cubbies.
  • Will each child have their own cubby? If so, ensure you have enough openings for each child and allow more in case you increase your class size
  • Using tubs in the cubbies keeps items more organized


Rugs

Rugs not only provide protection to high traffic areas in your Day Care but can also function as learning aids. Rugs for Day Care centers come in a variety of shapes, colors, and prints. For infants, rugs that are bright in color are great for stimulation. For toddlers and older children, rugs that contain learning information such as letters, words, or numbers may assist in learning.


Nap Time

Your Day Care center furniture must include mats or cots for the children to sleep on. Mats are a great choice for your Day Care as they are light and can be easily folded by a child. Mats are also covered in a crib sheet which can be easily washed.


Dramatic Play

Your Day Care furniture list must include dramatic play such as a kitchen, playhouse, housekeeping set, puppet theatre, etc. Dramatic Play is excellent for children to keep busy during play time and interact and socialize with other children in the day care class.


Art Equipment

Children in your Day Care center will be very stimulated by art, and therefore, Art Equipment is a must on your Day Care furniture list. Easels are perfect for children to draw. It is best to have more than one easel in your class.

Drying racks are a must in your Day Care as it allows children to place their paintings and craft work in a safe place while drying.


Infant and Toddler

If your Day Care will have infants and toddlers, you must include the following on your Day Care furniture list:

  • Diaper Changing Stations
  • Diaper Storage
  • High Chairs
  • Gliders
  • Soft Corner Play Center
  • Bye-Bye-Buggy
